The Noble [teachings]. Sutra of the Great Chariot. Questions of the King of the Naga Sagara
I praise all Enlightened ones and bodhisattvas!
So I heard once.
The Blessed One was with a great blessed assembly of bhikshu monks, numbering two thousand one hundred and fifty, and extremely numerous bodhisattva-mahasattvas, in the place where King Sagara of the Nagas was living.
Then the Blessed One said to Sagara, king of the Nagas:
Lord of the Nagas! If one proclaims these four sutras of the Teachings, then anyone who proclaims will become proclaiming collections of teachings-dharma numbering eighty-four thousand.
What are these four? It is complete immersion in the understanding of the inexhaustible teaching of the bodhisattva-mahasattvas that everything composite is impermanent. Total immersion in understanding the inexhaustible teaching of the bodhisattva-mahasattvas that all contaminated dharma particles are suffering. Total immersion in understanding the inexhaustible teaching of the bodhisattva-mahasattvas that all dharmo-particles are without selfhood. Full immersion in understanding the inexhaustible teaching of the bodhisattva-mahasattvas that nirvana is appeasement.
Lord of the Nagas! If one proclaims these four sutras of the Teachings, anyone who proclaims - will proclaim a collection of Teachings-dharma, numbering eighty-four thousand.
The Blessed One said so. Then the bhikshu monks and bodhisattvas rejoiced and praised what the Blessed One had said.
Thus ends the noble [teaching], the sutra of the Great Chariot, the Questions of the King of the Nagas Sagara.
