nāga-baliṁ-vidhiḥ
Torma ritual for the Nagas
I prostrate before the holy noble Tara!
Due to the pride of the deity as self, perform again and again the meditation on love, mercy, and enlightened disposition. When you do so, in front [visualize appearing] from the syllable paṁ a red-colored lotus with eight petals. On it, from the eight syllables phuḥ, eight nāgas appear.
Then [visualize that] with rays of light from the heart and the utterance of “oṁ phe phu” the eight nāgas along with their retinue are grasped and dissolved. Offer the nagas, samajāsattva and jñānasattva, three white, three sweet ones together with nectar.
Then [follows] the blessing of the torma. The vessel is the jewel [that arose] from the syllable hi. Abides as perfectly beautiful in appearance. Imagine it as spacious and great in breadth.
Imagine that from within, this supreme and precious vessel is completely filled with three white, three sweet, and nectar.
On top of this [appear] three syllables. Having purified color, fragrance, and taste, [the liquid] becomes possessed of a hundred supreme tastes of nectar. The right one [constitutes] the mudra of bestowing the highest. Imagine that there from the syllables “ha ho hri paṁ” a tree of wish fulfillment appears. On all the branches and leaves [are] limitless precious vessels filled with nectar. Having visualized this, imagine that from the syllable bhrūṁ a rain of nectar descends. By this the torma is completely filled.
oṁ āḥ
Repeat three times. A vajra tube is drawn out of the tongue of all the guests from the syllable hūṁ.
oṁ ananta baliṁ idaṁ kha kha khāhi khāhi oṁ takṣaka oṁ kulika oṁ vāsuki oṁ śaṅkhapāla oṁ mahā padma oṁ varuṇa oṁ nandanā garā jāya
oṁ pheṁ! Kings of the Nagas, etc., without consorts! ba liṁ i daṁ kha kha khā hi khā hi
Ananta, Takshaka, Karkotaka, Kulika, Vasuki, Shangggkhapala, Padma, Varuna, Nanda, Nandopananda, Sagara, Mahasagara, Śrīprabha, Mahāprabha! The good manifestations of the great bodies, [possessing] great power!
The eight great nagas along with their retinue! Come here! Make offerings! Accept the torma!
[Accept] this torma of three beautiful white ones along with an ocean of milk and three sweet ones! [You] possess the ladder of the precious garland! Exercising protection from the harm of the nagas! Let it appear as a harmonious substance!
When you seize this torma of the highest bestowal, together with those around you, pacify the diseases that come from the nagas, visible poisons, poisons from food, poisons from thoughts, etc.!
When you have received your own important substances, treat me without doing harm, with an attitude in which love is constant, and with an attitude like that of your parents!
Also all clusters of harmful nagas who do not adhere to holy deeds and the Teachings of the husband based on deeds! When you receive this inheritance of the Teachings, go to your own separate places!
After that, bring up the torma, [recite] the symbol of truth, carry out the explanation of the Teaching.
