ārya-siṁha-nāda-sādhanaṁ
The practice of the noble Simhanada
I prostrate before the holy Simhanada!
First, every mantrik should wash his face, etc. Having done so, sit on a good seat. The white syllable hrīḥ is seen on the disk of the moon in the heart proper. Then by the rays of light that radiate from it, the teacher-gurus, the Enlightened Ones, and the bodhisattvas are invited before you. Having done this meditation, then make offerings, repent of harmful things, and so forth. Having done so, meditate on emptiness.
oṁ śūnyatā jñāna vajra svabhāva ātma ko haṁ
By this you will realize the blessing.
Then instantly a red lotus [appears] from the paṁ syllable formed above it. From the syllable siṁ formed above it [appears] a white lion. The syllable hrīḥ on the moon appears on it. Meditate that [from it] you yourself [manifest] in the body of Simhanāda, the lord of the universe. With a body of white color, a cap of braids. At the top of his head is adorned with Amitabha. Possesses three eyes and two hands, holds the attributes of an ascetic and sits in the position of a playing great king. On the lotus appearing in his left hand [is] a flaming sword. In the right [is] a trident entangled with a white serpent. At the left [hand is] a white kapala skull filled with various sweet-scented flowers. The five Tathagatas are emitted. Meditate on the body of the great manifestation.
Mantra for repetition:
oṁ āḥ hrīḥ siṁha nāda hūṁ phaṭ
Then repeat the dharani:
namo ratna trayāya nama ārya avalokiteśvarāya bodhisatvāya mahāsatvāya mahā kāruṇikāya tadyathā oṁ a kaṭe vi kaṭe ni kaṭe kaṭaṁ kaṭe karoṭe karo ṭaṁ vīrya svāhā
Having proclaimed this mantra, early in the morning before the Blessed One, make eight mandalas of cow dung that has not fallen to the ground. Having done so, recite for each mandala [dharani] thirteen times. Having recited over the remains of the dung seven times, smear it on the sick person. This will completely pacify all diseases. Acting in this way for seven days, thirteen days, or twenty-one days, even one who has performed five unparalleled [bad actions] will realize [everything]. If not realized in this life, then I will appear as having realized five unparalleled [bad actions].
This is how the practice of Simhanada is completed.
