The Practice of Simhanada

First, every practitioner of mantras must perform the appropriate purification rituals, etc. [Then one may] sit on a comfortable seat. Concentrate on the white syllable hrīḥ, situated on the disk of the moon within your own heart. Once you have done so, meditate that rays of light emanating from it invite the virtuous, and [in the space] before you [appear] the summoned guru, the Enlightened Ones, and the bodhisattvas.
Afterward, make offerings and repent of harmful actions, etc. Then, in a virtuous manner, practice the meditation on emptiness and [say]:
Oṁ—I am the essence of the vajra-like self-nature, the primordial wisdom of emptiness!
This also brings about a blessing.
Then, immediately, a white lotus [appears] through the syllable paṁ. When the syllable siṁ forms upon it, [it transforms] into a white lion. Meditate that from the syllable hrīḥ, [which is located] on the moon on its back, [arises] the essence within the body of Simhanada, the lord of the universe. He is white in color, with two arms, and possesses Amitābha, a hair-braid, and a diadem. With three eyes, he holds the attributes of an ascetic and sits in the majestic posture of a great king. In his left hand rises a lotus with a sword resting atop it. In his right hand is a white trident entwined by a white serpent wearing a hood. To his left is a white kapala skull, completely filled with various sweet-smelling flowers. The five Tathāgatas appear. Meditate on the body of great nirvana.
     Mantra to recite:
oṁ āḥ hrīḥ siṁha nāda hūṁ phaṭ
Once you have bound [with this mantra], then [recite] the dhārani.
I prostrate before the Three Jewels! I prostrate before the noble Avalokiteśvara, the bodhisattva-mahasattva of great compassion!
     Thus [I say]:
oṁ a kaṭe vi kaṭe ni kaṭe kaṭaṁ kaṭe karoṭa vīrye svāhā
Such is the sequence of these [actions]. Make eight mandalas before the Blessed One, [using] cow dung that has fallen early in the morning. Recite [the mantra] thirteen times over each mandala. Recite it seven times over the remaining cow dung. When you have done so, anoint the sick person with it. All of his illnesses will be completely pacified.
Otherwise, if the one who has committed the five unparalleled [evil deeds] fails to realize this [method] within seven, thirteen, or twenty-one days, then in this very life I myself will appear as one who has committed the five unparalleled [evil deeds].
Thus concludes the practice of Simhanada.
