vajra-hūṁkāra-sādhana
The Practice of Vajra-Humkara
Having successively performed the previously proclaimed rituals, visualize the Sun emerging from the syllable ra within the sphere of space. Upon it appears the syllable hūṁ, blazing intensely like the fire at the end of the aeon and enveloped in a mass of flaming light; it is black in color and embodies great magnificence.
From this arises the great Wrathful One [or the mighty one] known as Vajrahūṃkāra. He is wholly imbued with the power to destroy those possessed of poison. He shakes the three spheres [of existence]. Holding a vajra and a bell, he forms and maintains a mudra with his two hands. With his two legs the right, one bent, he tramples Bhairava, manifesting a terrifying aspect. His heart, throat, and head are marked with the syllables "oṁ āḥ hūṁ." Through the ritual of initiation, he is sealed by Vajrasattva. Mantra:
oṁ hūṁ hūṁ phaṭ svāhā
Thus concludes the practice of Vajrahūṃkāra. Translated by the monk Tsultrim Gyaltsen based on the [teachings] of Abhaya.
Translated by Lama Dondrub Dorje Tulku.
