Prayer to the eighty-four siddhas
I prostrate before the Three Jewels!
Guru-guru is the Enlightened One, Guru-guru is the Teaching! Equal to Guru-guru is the Sangha! Guru-guru is the glorious Vajradhara! I prostrate before the Guru Gurus! I offer my prayers! I ask for blessings [to comprehend] the essence as compassion!
You have attained siddhi in the body of a monk! You have been offered nectar by the forest goddess! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Nagarjunagarbha!
You have attained siddhi [through] devotion to the teacher-guru! Emerging from the lotus, you hold the supreme body! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Aryadeva!
Thou possessest destiny, [having been born] in the family of a grammar expert! You have tasted the giblets of fishes and attained siddhi! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Lujipa!
[You were born] in the family of a son of liberation in the body of a householder! You have eaten tree fruits and have found the highest path! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Padmavajra!
[You were born] in the body of a dance expert in a Brahmin family! You have attained siddhi on the glorious mountain! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Saraha!
You have attained siddhi in the family of Chandra! Abide with the lotus! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Born in the lake!
Spreading your garments, you came out of the Ganges! Riding on a tiger, you have attained siddhi! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Dombiheruka!
You have reversed the great river! Thou hast entered the treasury of the Sun as a holder [of treasures]! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Virupa!
Thou sawest [the deity] with the heartfelt engagements of Nalendra! Composed treatises and traveled into space! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Vusukura!
You have attained siddhis together with a child! In Bhamgala, you received a prediction! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Vajraghanta!
You have performed ascesis and attained siddhi! Having received the sword, you have traveled to space-sky! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Nalendrapa!
Being in the body of a monk, you were [born] in a family of outcasts and attained siddhis together with your wife! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Kukuripa!
Being in the body of a monk, you possessed the eye of primordial wisdom! You saw Guhyasamaja as being in the asafetida tree! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Buddhajñjñana!
You practiced the practice of renouncing ascesis! You practiced the stance of gazing and attained siddhi! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Krishnavajra!
[You were born in a royal family and were in the place of Uddiyana! And attained siddhi with your wife! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Indrabhuti!
A Brahmin who messed with his own daughter! You put vajras inside and went underground! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Naropa!
In the family on the extreme border [you have attained] the body of a tree expert! You have attained siddhi with your wife! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Togchepa!
Being a Brahmin, thou didst perform lowly deeds! Living by means of the net, you have attained siddhi! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Tantrala!
As a monk, you practiced unadorned! You have attained siddhi with a straw hut! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Lavapa!
You defeated the Tirthikas in disputes and on the sea island Tara [granted you] refuge! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Chandragomi!
[Born] into a royal family, you performed lowly actions! You attained siddhi with rice between your teeth! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Shantipa!
Being adorned with the knowledge of the five sciences, you acted without separation between yourself and others! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Dipamkara!
By breaking sesame, you attained the highest siddhis and met the Enlightened One in Bhamgala! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Tilopa!
You acted by destroying the teacher-guru's instructions, but you became Enlightened by completing everything in the intermediate state of becoming-existence! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Krishnacharya!
Brahmin, that you have truly met the Enlightened One! You have attained siddhi in the body of a virtuous layman! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Phartshangpa [Tib. phag tshyang pa]!
You have explored the highest places numbering twenty-four! Having proceeded to the palmyra tree, you proclaimed [the offering of] torma! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Bhadra!
The dance expert who was on the Glorious Mountain! Thanks to the two sisters, you have attained siddhis! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Shavaripa!
[Born] into a royal family, you acted as an ordinary [person]! You attained siddhi with a lowly merchant! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Darikapa!
You guarded cows and attained siddhi! Your supreme body is on the Glorious Mountain! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Nagabodhi!
You attained siddhi by being in a multicolored body and became clothed in six ornaments at the cemetery place! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Pradipadeva!
By acting with rice, you have attained siddhi! And by selling five hundred arrows, you went into space! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Dakipa!
You won disputations with others and orbel siddhi in Bhamgala! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Jaitari!
By virtue of prayers-wishes, you saw [a deity] with heartfelt commitments and attained siddhis of supreme intention! I prostrate before this teacher-guru whose name is Sarakapa!
[Born] into a royal family, you have brought about the completion of action. Having done so, attained the siddhi of the secret mantra by adhering to vinaya! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Shantipa!
You possessed the body of a cloth expert [or tailor] while in the caste of the outcaste! You have attained siddhi together with your spiritual consort! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Thagapa [or tailor]!
You have been blessed by Vajravarahi and have become versed in the essence of the four divisions of tantra! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Jalandhara!
[Born] into the family of one who [knew] texts and grammar, you became versed in treatises! You have attained the siddhi of the vidyadhara of longevity! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Kamala!
Thou hast come to the other shore of methods and wisdom! Appeared as the mind, the essence of the vessel of the scriptures! I prostrate before this teacher-guru called Dharmakirti!
[Born] of a low caste, you have become versed in sesame oil and have attained siddhis with your spiritual consort! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Viryapa!
[You were born into a Brahmin family and became versed in poetry and traveled to heaven-space with a woman! I prostrate before this teacher-guru whose name is Kongkana!
[Born] into a royal family, you performed the actions of a mute and attained the highest siddhis of secret practice! I prostrate before this teacher-guru whose name is Pakapala!
[You acquired] the body of a copper smith in a brahmin family and attained the siddhis of the swift feet of magical manifestation! I prostrate before this teacher-guru whose name is Tampaka!
[Born] into a royal family, you played the reed flute! Seeing the countenance of [a deity] with heartfelt commitments, you traveled into space! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Bhinasa!
[Born] in a brahmin family, possessing a lowly body you attained siddhi with a lowly merchant! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Sutaloki!
[Born] in the family of tirthikas, you have become versed in the size of sounds! You completely cut off your opponents and went into space! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Dharmakirti!
[Having been born into the family of a shoe expert, [you became] possessed of [appropriate] fortune! You found siddhi in the cemetery land! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Kumara!
Being in the body of a shramanjera, thou loaded thy body with a beautiful woman! Being in the Ganga, you traveled to space! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Tshembuva [or tailor]!
[Born] into the family of a rank expert, thou hast obtained the body of a virtuous layman! Displaying pure conduct, you abode in Uddiyan! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Nilapa!
Being in the body of a monk, you relied on mudra! You suppressed the mouth of the rakshasa from the southwest! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Padmakara!
[Born] into a hunter's family, you possessed [the appropriate] destiny! You practiced sitting on a lion! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Sidhapa!
[Born] into the family of a fisherman and you obtained the body of a virtuous layman! You have attained siddhi on a sea island! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Minarpa!
[Born] into a royal family, you have become versed in the five sciences! You have removed doubts about the deity of space! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Abhraverayoga!
[Having been born] into an extreme [in quality] caste, you have obtained a beautiful body and have crossed the entire ocean of suffering! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Karupaka!
You are versed in the essence of the sounds of the four divisions of tantra! Having completed the four postures, you have gone into space! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Dasiripa!
Thou hast exhibited the behavior of a brahmin family! You have attained your own power in the non-conceptual mind! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Ananta!
You have been blessed by Avalokiteshvara! Holding the vessel, you have purified the impurities! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Simha!
[Born] in a Brahmin family, you have obtained the body of a yogin! You gave alms and attained siddhis! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Chandrabhadra!
You were blessed by the white Tara and compiled a commentary on yoga-tantra! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Anandagarbha!
You were born as a manifestation of Manjushri's body and entered the essence of Nagarjuna in the mind! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Chandrakirti!
You saw the face of Achala and practiced! Being naked, abiding in asceticism in the graveyard! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Nindapariveshtana!
Being a king, you practiced lowly actions! You attained siddhi with a lowly spiritual consort! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Karnapa!
You have been blessed by the compassionate Tara and freed from the eight fears that do harm! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Avadhuti!
Being versed in the path of channels and prana, you have gained your own power in the prana of the elements! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Charyapa!
In the family of a wood-gatherer you have gained siddhis! You followed the Great Chariot and Nagarjuna! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Shakyamitra!
[Born] in a fisherman's family, you became versed in canals and prana! You acted naked on the path of bliss! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Chandali!
Thou didst circumambulate around the self-creating stupa! Seeing the countenance [of the deity] with heartfelt commitments, you went into space! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Gitakara!
Being in the body of a monk of a Brahmin family, you practiced the twelve purification-training practices! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Bhagalana!
Holder of the Maitripa transmission lineage from the mountain hermitage! Mahamudra has appeared in your mind! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Swarakarapada!
You were in extreme places, such as the cemetery, etc.! Fortunate one, you realized submission and performed ganachakra! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Kontamli!
You have seen the face of Hayagriva and subdued the poisonous one! You acted with the objects of the senses and traveled into space! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Chavari!
[Being born] into a royal family, you performed lowly acts! You walked in the graveyard and wore great meat! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Siyali!
Your countenance was seen by Tara and she also made a prediction! You attained siddhi in the temple! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Ravigupta!
[Born] in a royal family, you marched on a sunbeam! You traveled underground with a small lamp, hiding your eyes! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Vagishvara!
[Born] in an inferior family, you received the body of a bhikshu monk! By composing one throne, you have attained siddhi! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Hilava!
Riding on an elephant, thou hast traveled through a graveyard! Subduing the king, you traveled into space! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Kalaka!
You beheld the face of Samvara and practiced! The great poisonous snake was tied on your head! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Kubhucha!
You performed asceticism on a sea island and completed the four initiations at the place of Uddiyana! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Simha!
You performed ascesis in the forest! You saw the face of Maitreya and began to compose treatises! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Asanga!
You went around the Glorious Mountain and performed asceticism in the place of Uddiyana! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Natapa!
In the vihara of Otapa you were blessed by Hevajra! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Linbukhen [or flute-player]!
Thou didst perform asceticism in Bhamgala and saw [a deity] with heart commitments in Bodhgaya! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Saraha!
You were blessed by a dakini in the cemetery in Uddiyan! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Sarasuka!
In the northeast of Bhamgala, you were blessed by a red Yamari! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Kalamge!
You performed asceticism in the garden of the kadiraka and saw [the deity] with the heart commitments of Varasapani! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Bhayani!
You subdued the king of Magadha and showed play in the cemetery place! I prostrate before this teacher-guru, whose name is Pushpa [or Kusuma]!
Additionally, I prostrate with devotion before all those who have proceeded to Khechchari relying on the path of the secret mantra and all those who have attained siddhis!
When I prostrate and offer prayers, think [of me] with compassion and bless me! Carry out the practice of the secret mantra accordingly!
When I devoutly address the eighty-four siddhas with prayer, please bless with compassion! Bring the blessing of the body! I ask for the kindling in the ordinary body of the Great Bliss! Bring forth the blessing of speech! Bring the blessing of [the appearance of] possibilities in ordinary speech! Bring forth the blessing of the mind! Please engender clear light in the ordinary mind! Bless the body, speech, and mind! Do not cut off the flow of the water of blessing! Until I become one with the body of the Teaching-dharmakaya, do not cast away the iron hook of compassion! I appeal to you with a prayer!
May, because of the spiritual merit that has arisen therefrom, the goals of living beings of the six species be realized and then comprehend the essence of Mahamudra!
Thus concludes the prayer to the eighty-four siddhas composed by the teacher-guru Vajrasana. Translated and verified by Pandita Vairochana and the translator Sri Chhokyi Dragpa.
