123. The Mahayana Sutra. Primordial Wisdom and the moment of Death

Library - Kangyur - Sutra

ārya-ā-ta-jñāna-nāma-mahāyāna-sūtra

A noble [teaching]. The Great Chariot Sutra.

Primordial Wisdom and the moment of Death

I praise to all the Enlightened Ones and Bodhisattvas!
    That's what I heard once.
The Blessed One was in the good house of the king of the gods, Akanishtha. He explained the Teaching to the whole environment. [At this time] the bodhisattva-mahasattva Akashagarbha, after praising the Blessed One, said the following:
Blessed One! How is the mind seen at the moment of death by the bodhisattvas?
    The Blessed One replied:
Akashagarbha! When the time of the bodhisattva's death comes, meditate on death and primordial wisdom. As for the primordial wisdom and the moment of death, since all dharmic particles are completely pure in their own nature, meditate with the perception of the immaterial. Since all the dharmic particles unite in an enlightened mood, meditate with thoughts of great compassion. Since all dharmic particles are by their very nature clear light, meditate with thoughts of the invisible. Since all particles are impermanent, meditate with thoughts of not being attached to anything. If one comprehends the mind, then it is the primordial wisdom. So meditate with the thought that the Enlightened One cannot be found elsewhere.
The Blessed One recited the following verse:
Since all dharmic particles are completely pure in their own nature, meditate with thoughts of the immaterial.
Since you have a special enlightened attitude, meditate with thoughts of great compassion.
Since the intrinsic nature of all dharmic particles is clear light, meditate with thoughts of the unseen.
Since all material things are not permanent, meditate with thoughts of non-attachment.
The mind is the cause of the origin of primordial wisdom. May the Enlightened One not be found anywhere else!

The Blessed One said so. And all the assembled people, including the Bodhisattva Akashagarbha and others, rejoiced. Having shown their joy, they gave praise to the Blessed Ones.
Thus ends the noble [teaching], the Great Chariot Sutra-the moment of death and the primordial wisdom.
