catur-gāthā
Four stanzas
I prostrate before the Three Jewels!
O You who are manifest in physical form! You possess the thirty-two supreme marks! I prostrate before all the Victorious Ones renowned as perfect Buddhas!
[There are places] where perfect Buddhas are born, where they attain enlightenment, where they turn the Wheel [of the Teaching] of peace, where they pass into pure Nirvana, and where Sugatas have dwelt, moved, stood, and slept like lions! I prostrate before all these places!
Stupas—whether containing bodily relics or not—[located] above, below, in the intermediate space, and in the cardinal and intermediate directions! I prostrate before you!
Victorious One, supreme among bipeds, who dwells in the eastern and northern quarters of the world! You are called "The Hard to Attain."
Thus is this stanza proclaimed.
Whoever offers praise and homage to the Tathagata through these four stanzas shall not descend into the lower realms, even throughout a thousand subsequent rebirths.
Thus conclude the four stanzas.
